James and John came up to Jesus and asked him to grant then whatever they wish for. When Jesus asked them what they wanted, they told him that they want for one of them to sit at his right hand and the other at his left in his kingdom. Does God's salvation extend beyond the boundaries of baptism? These questions have been a topic of...

April and I visited a church that we had never been to before. It was one of those “mega” churches. The worship was great. I sensed God’s presence in the house, His house! The sermon was good as we…
This post was first published in December, 2018. —ed. There’s nothingwecan do to earn our way into God’s kingdom. We needGodto do something to us. That truth demolishes every religious system outside of Christianity. And that is the sobering reality Jesus used to initiate His evangelistic encounter with Nicodemus—a man who had devoted his whole

Imagine walking several grueling miles through rough, dry terrain to listen to an outcast from society proclaim a countercultural message that assaulted all your religious beliefs and practices. Not many of us would sign up for such a journey, or sit patiently through such a confronting
How can we tell a true church from a false church? Or a healthy church from one that’s weak and incomplete? I open the Bible to chapter 6 of Romans, and immediately these words grab me hard: “…are you unaware…?” I understand that unawareness is a blind spot, and it is downright dangerous. So, I stop what I’m doing and pray: Lord, help show me where I am unaware.” Are you aware that… The enemy of our s …
