Unlimited: The Coming of the Son of Man

At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens (Mark 13:26–27, NIV).

This passage is the very climax of Jesus’ prophecy. He responded to the question from his disciples about when the temple would be destroyed.

Jesus made it very clear that he hasn’t been just talking about the destruction of the temple, but of his second coming and the end of the world. This is the culmination of history, and the culmination of Jesus’ prophecy as well: the second coming of Christ.

Jesus had specifically mentioned the prophecies of Daniel before, and here he is directly referring to Daniel again, specifically to coming of the Son of Man in Daniel 7. Daniel forms the framework for properly understanding the whole of Jesus’ great prophetic sermon here.

Jesus often referred to himself as the Son of Man, and here in this prophecy he draws all the strands together. It is his own coming, as the Son of Man, that is the culminating event at the end of the world. If you read this in the context of Daniel 7, Jesus says that it is he himself who will vanquish God’s enemies and take the kingdoms of this world, and that he will give the kingdom to his people.

Here is the climax of all prophecies of the end of the world: when the Son of Man returns to this world. It will be a wonderful day!

Notice that Jesus says that he will gather his children “from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.”

What that means is that no-one will be missed!

God Is Still Writing Your Story

We are all going to have good chapters and bad chapters. We’re going to have times when we think, I do not like this story and other times we think, I do like this story. The key is to not get stuck in life’s difficult chapters but keep moving to the flow of the Author’s pen. God is still writing your story.Father, some chapters of my story that are so difficult. However, I know You can use all the broken pieces to make a magnificent masterpiece. Help me not get stuck in a bad chapter due to disappointment or discouragement, but to keep moving forward, knowing there is more to be written. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.Where are you right now?
