Thanksgiving on the Way to New Jerusalem (3)

Giving thanks to God our Father in all situations is an integral part of our Christina walk in which we are constituted into New Jerusalem.

Philippians 4:6 says, “In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Prayer is fellowship with God and petition is particular requests. These should always be with thanksgiving—thanking God that He is in control and that everything works for our good in loving Him (Rom. 8:28).

New JerusalemColossians 4:2 is similar: “Persevere in prayer, watching in it with thanksgiving,” We might not think a particular event or requirement is good but we can always thank God that He knows our situation and what is best for us.

First Corinthians 15:54-56 mentions sin and death but verse 57 concludes, “thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

First Timothy 2:1 exhorts us “that petitions, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings be made on behalf of all men.” Verse 2 is the same “on behalf of kings and all who are in high position” (whether we like them or not) because God uses them all (Dan. 4:34-35). The need for this prayer is in verse 4, “[God] desires all men to be saved and to come to the full knowledge of the truth.”

Fellowship with God in prayer and thanksgivings in many ways both work to prepare us for New Jerusalem.
