Thanksgiving in New Jerusalem

One aspect of our present “walk worthily of the Lord” (Col. 1:10) is “giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you for a share of the allotted portion of the saints in the light” (v. 12). The death and resurrection of Christ qualified us and now we can share all that the Father has allotted to us.New Jerusalem

While we share this allotment, we give thanks to the Father. This is during our current Christian life. And we will also give thanks eternally to the Father in New Jerusalem. This eternal thanksgiving is indicated in Colossians 1:12 because we will still share our allotted portion of blessing in New Jerusalem.

First Thessalonians 5:16-18 encourages us “always rejoice, unceasingly pray, in everything give thanks.” Rejoicing will surely continue in New Jerusalem. The most basic meaning of prayer is contact, fellowship with God; this also will surely continue in New Jerusalem. Therefore giving thanks will also continue.

Revelation 7 presents a scene in heaven. The heavenly creatures declare “The blessing and the glory and the wisdom and the thanks and the honor and the power and the strength be to our God forever and ever.” Since their thanks is forever, ours will be also. New Jerusalem will be filled with rejoicing, fellowship, and thanksgiving.
