Practice Spiritual Eating
Many recent posts have been about spiritual eating for our growth to maturity unto New Jerusalem. But you might ask, How do we eat?
Jesus told us that we should eat Him. “he who eats Me, he also shall live because of Me” (John 6:57). And He declared, “I am the bread of life” (6:48), and “I am the living bread which came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread…” (6:51). Many other verses in John 6 touch this same reality.
Jesus is also the Word of God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”; “In Him was life”; “the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us…full of grace and reality”; “grace and reality came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:1, 4, 14, 17). This Word is likened to spiritual bread in Matthew 4:4.
Therefore, to eat God’s Word is to eat Jesus. This is not studying nor merely memorizing, but eating. The key for this eating is in Ephesians 6:17-18, “receive…the sword of the Spirit, which Spirit is the word of God, by means of all prayer and petition.”
We eat the Word by praying with it, even praying the exact words in a verse, or by declaring them, or by repeating them with thanksgiving and praise.
