“I AM A NECROMANCER…!” A Prophetic Dream with a Warning

Last night I had a short dream that I believe carries a warning for believers.

I was attending a black-tie event of influencers and peers gathered for networking and connection. Everyone was dressed up and mingling. Rather than staying with familiar friends, I walked around and noticed a tall woman standing alone in the corner, scanning the crowd. She had short hair, wore glasses, and seemed excited to be there.

She immediately recognized me and eagerly introduced herself. Grabbing my hand with a huge smile, she said, “I’m a necromancer…” She seemed to know who I was and was familiar with my ministry. Though socially awkward and looking for connection, she suddenly grabbed both my elbows, took a deep breath, and leaned in to kiss me on the lips. I quickly pulled away, assuming she simply didn’t realize how inappropriate it was. But instead of backing off, she took another breath, determined to make some kind of declaration over me that would “seal” our connection. It was obvious she had prepared for this moment and intended to follow through. Then I woke up.

I immediately sensed this was a warning to avoid anything associated with necromancy or attempts to connect with the spirits of the dead.

“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.” (Leviticus 19:31)

Scripture is clear, yet in today’s climate of heightened supernatural interest and the pursuit of “deeper revelation,” we must remain discerning. The enemy knows our hunger for spiritual realities and is eager to satisfy it with convincing counterfeits.

What struck me was that this woman didn’t appear threatening. She wasn’t portrayed as an influential occult leader but as someone sincerely looking for friendship and belonging. That, I believe, is part of the warning. Deception often enters through seemingly harmless relationships rather than obvious darkness. While we are called to love people trapped in deception, we must never compromise our spiritual boundaries in the process.

“Should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living? To the teaching and to the testimony!” (Isaiah 8:19-20)

In the dream, I was simply looking for something new, yet the enemy had already prepared a counterfeit connection. She knew who I was, anticipated the encounter, and sought to establish agreement. Thankfully, I immediately recognized the spirit behind the invitation and refused it.

Most Spirit-filled believers would reject necromancy outright. Yet subtle forms of this deception are becoming more common. Popular culture romanticizes the dead as spiritually active and available to guide the living. Others assume dreams of deceased loved ones are always messages from God. While God can use dreams symbolically, Scripture never encourages us to seek revelation from those who have died (see Luke 16:19–31). Our pursuit of the supernatural must always remain within the boundaries of God’s Word.

“So Saul died for his breach of faith… and also consulted a medium, seeking guidance.” (1 Chronicles 10:13)

Any pursuit of spiritual knowledge apart from the Holy Spirit is forbidden because it opens the door to deception. Even at the Transfiguration, Moses and Elijah appeared because God initiated it—not because anyone sought communication with them. The disciples were observers, not participants.

As spiritual hunger continues to increase in the Church, so will opportunities for counterfeit encounters. Our safeguard is not fear, but faithful devotion to Christ, His Spirit, and His Word. We can love those caught in deception without embracing their practices, and we can minister to them without yielding spiritual ground. The Church does not need greater fascination with the unseen—it needs greater discernment. As we inquire of the Lord alone, we will recognize the difference between what is initiated by heaven and what merely imitates it.
