Great is the Mystery of Godliness (2)

The prior post shows that the great mystery of godliness in 1 Timothy 3:16 includes God manifested in all His people. Today this is a preface for New Jerusalem, which will be the eternal manifestation of God in and through all His people.

The application of verse 3:16 to the church is also shown by “And” at the beginning of the verse. This ties the manifestation of God to “the house of God, which is the church of the living God” in verse 15. What is revealed in verse 15 is part of the great mystery in verse 16.

New Jerusalem(Remember that when the NT was written, it was not separated into verses. As an example, a page from the gospel of John; this was written sometime in the years 200 to 240.)

When God is allowed to be “the living God” in His people, then He is manifested through them. At present this manifestation is hindered by our sinful flesh (Rom. 7) with the many negative activities we are warned about in the epistles, such as those in 1 Peter 2:1 and James 1:21 or the love of the world in 1 John 2:15-16.

However, by the time our Lord returns all these negative things should have been washed out of us. This washing is in Ephesians 5:26 with the goal in verse 27 that “He might present the church to Himself glorious, not having spot or wrinkle or any such things.” This will be a great step to New Jerusalem.
