Cut Through the Confusion
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
-Exodus 20:14, KJV
Cheaters thrive on confusion in their mark spouse. They hope the faithful spouse buys into the line that the cheating is really their fault and NOT the cheaters. Some will employ professionals to add to the confusion having faithful spouses believe the cheating is symptom of marriage issues.
The only one who can stop sinning by cheating is the one who is cheating in the first place. That means attention is wasted on the marriage. It is wasted on the faithful spouse. It is wasted on affair partners even.
This is not rocket science.
The emotional affair was not caused by the faithful spouse’s poor listening skills. It was caused by a spouse who chose sin over godliness. The only true spiritual remedy is honest confession and repentance–i.e. turning away from said sin.
Cheaters are not poor victims of circumstance. They are agents who are choosing sin over godliness. We need to stop looking externally and start calling cheaters to holiness. That’s what good, biblical counsel was demand.
