Betrayal
Hello, faithful WordPress followers,
I pray that this post meets you and your loved ones well? It’s been a minute and I’ve found myself in a place where I do not intend to let the challenges of life overwhelm me. So, what did I do to combat such an unpleasant state of mind, you may ask?…. I turned to the word of God, asked the Holy Spirit for direction, and decided to be a source of encouragement to others.
2 Corinthians 1:4 ~ He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.
One of my favourite passages in the Bible to turn to during moments of hardship is Psalms 42.
Psalm 42:5 ~ “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and”
Life becomes suffocating when your very soul is crushed. Crushed by the false accusations made against you by persons whom you thought you were on the same team as.
It’s devastating to find yourself in a place where no matter what you do, your actions, inactions, words, etc., are often viewed as an attempt to intentionally harm an individual. On frequent occasions, there is a fault to be found and an incorrect assumption made. Simply put, the worst is always presumed about you.
Betrayal is exceptionally painful, especially when it comes from someone whom you thought would defend you, someone whom you felt you could trust, yet they marred your image before others to the point where you never got the opportunity to defend yourself, yet conclusions have been made about you.
But from great moments of pain, there is an opportunity for sincere joy to be birthed and for peace to prevail. Why? Because we know that we’re not alone and that we can run into the loving arms of God, our Comforter and Defender. Be aware of the fact that He knows our hearts. Remember that everything will be okay because God is good and He has foreseen the end from the beginning.
Also, it is beautiful to find solace in the fact that Jesus also experienced ultimate betrayal, and I’m not just talking about Judas. In His final hours, He was left alone and deserted. Peter, who was there at Christ’s configuration, denied that he knew Christ three times. Yet Christ went to the cross for Peter. And not only for Peter but for all humanity; that’s how much God loves us. I’m in no way comparing one’s struggles with that of Christ, but what is important to know is that we have a perfect High Priest who can sympathise with us in our weakness.
Mark 14:50 ~ Then all his disciples deserted him and ran away.
Matthew 26:75 ~ “Suddenly, Jesus’ words flashed through Peter’s mind: “Before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” And he went away, weeping bitterly.”
We should imitate Christ. It’s not always easy to respond in a gracious manner (especially when falsely accused), BUT with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us. We have the power to love according to 1 Corinthians chapter 13. I must state that it is exceptionally challenging to navigate through periods where someone continuously misunderstands you and feels that you are against them, but in such moments, ask the Holy Spirit to tame your tongue, ask God to guard your lips so that the words that you speak are good and not evil.
Psalm 141:3 ~ “Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips.”
Turn to God for encouragement, hope, and uplifting. It’s also important to remember that nobody is perfect, including yourself. You may let others down just as others let you down; therefore, ask the Holy Spirit for the grace to forgive and not to harbour bitterness, resentment, and unforgiveness. Aspire to see purpose in the pain. Your godly reaction to difficult situations can actually encourage those around you. Being able to love like how Christ called you to love is a powerful and uplifting testimony in itself. Now, I appreciate that this is a journey; transformation can take some time, and I myself have to ensure that I sincerely aspire to love like Christ and respond in a Christ-like manner! So, if you have any tips or words of encouragement on this topic, DO SHARE 😃.
I hope you enjoyed today’s read and remember that your faith/trust in Christ during moments of difficulty can bless others, just as I pray that this post blesses all who read.
God bless

P.S. Don’t waste your energy on constantly trying to prove yourself. It’s exhausting, and you’ll wear yourself out. Learn to let go and surrender to God. Finally, forgive others just as our Heavenly Father forgives us.
