Becoming Pearls by the Death and Resurrection of Christ
Pearls, the second constituent of New Jerusalem, signifying Christ the Son in His life-releasing death and life-dispensing resurrection. In figure, a pearl is produced by an oyster.
The oyster typifies Christ coming into the world of death, signified by the salt water, and being crucified and wounded for our transgressions to produce us as pearls by secreting, dispensing, His life element into us….The resurrection of Christ dispensed His life nto His many members.
If we are to be produced as pearls, we have to daily experience the death of Christ subjectively by the power of Christ’s resurrection that we may be conformed to His death.
The only way we can remain in the death of Christ is by the power of His resurrection.*
This is clearly expressed in Philippians 3:10-11 where Paul longed “to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if perhaps I may attain to the out-resurrection from the dead.”
The out-resurrection in verse 11 refers to the time of our glorification, the completion of God’s work in us, when Christ comes the second time. This is the final step for our full entrance into New Jerusalem. Our focus is Christ Himself. The more we love Him, pursue Him (Phil. 3:12-14), and count everything aside from Him as loss (3:7-8), the more He will supply us with resurrection life to be conformed to His death.
