Advent Series: Light in Unexpected Places

Advent is the season of light— but not in the way we usually imagine. We often picture candles glowing against winter nights, or the star guiding the Magi. Yet the deeper truth of Advent is that God’s light often appears in unexpected, even counterintuitive places. Resting in the shadows, in midnight hours, in the mundane of waiting, or in the silence of evenings alone, light in unexpected places brings a truth we often miss. This series will explore how the paradox of light—fragile, hidden, slow, and surprising shapes our hope as we anticipate the birth of Christ, the Light of the world.

Exploring the nuances of light and darkness throughout the season of Advent, will open our hearts to a deeper understanding of God’s Light in our lives.

As we feel the heaviness of our world growing darker, even as we move into a season of fewer daylight hours, hopelessness lingers in the background. Yet, the stars shine brightest on the darkest nights.

I plan to share four posts over the course of Advent, two posts here on the blog, and two posts over on Substack, along with a final post on Christmas Day. If you are not a subscriber to my Substack publication, you can subscribe for FREE and not miss any of the series!

Eager to take this journey with you, my heart holds excitement and anticipation for what we will discover together this Advent season, as we open our hearts to God’s delightful leading.

“Come, Light of the World. Teach us to see You not only in brightness, but in shadow, silence and waiting. Prepare our hearts to receive You in every paradox of Advent. Amen.”
