When You’re Sitting on Confidence: Finding What You’ve Had All Along.
“I can’t find my cell phone,” my husband murmured as he paced from room to room.
“Where did you use it last?” I asked, reaching for the home phone to dial his number—a tried and true way to locate a lost phone these days.
But no luck.
We retraced our steps, searched every corner, even called the restaurant and our friend’s car from the night before. Still nothing. With his business trip coming up, the missing phone felt like a small crisis.
The next morning, as we pulled into the church parking lot, I sighed and put my phone away. Before my husband could even shut the car door, he chuckled softly.
“Here it is,” he said.
Sure enough—it was on my seat. I had been sitting on it the whole time!
That moment made me blush, but it also made me think. Sometimes, what we’re searching for isn’t lost at all—it’s just closer than we think.
Lately, I’ve been searching for something much more important than a cell phone—confidence.
After a misunderstanding with a friend, I needed courage to speak with honesty and grace. I searched inside myself, trying to gather strength and the right words—firm but kind, truthful yet gentle. But the more I looked within, the more flustered I became. My own confidence wasn’t enough.
That’s when God whispered a familiar truth: Confidence doesn’t come from within—it comes from Him.
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.” (Psalm 27:1,3)
True confidence isn’t built on what we can do—it’s anchored in Who walks beside us.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” (1 John 5:14–15)
Confidence is in the asking. Reassurance is in the believing. Peace is in the knowing that He will deliver.
So, if you’ve misplaced your confidence lately—if fear, anxiety, or uncertainty has made you feel small—don’t worry. You may be sitting on it already. God’s strength has been beneath you all along.
Let’s Pray
Father, thank You for being my stronghold when my confidence falters. Remind me that I don’t have to rely on my own strength or courage. When I feel uncertain, lift my eyes back to You—my source of peace, wisdom, and unwavering confidence.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
What “lost confidence” have you been searching for lately?
Could it be that, like that missing phone, the assurance you need has been right there—in God’s hands—all along?
