Unlimited: One God, One Justification

Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, 30 since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith (Romans 3:29).
Paul’s argument here is that because God is the God of both Jews and Gentiles, he will justify all in the same way.
The Jews thought that God was especially “their” God, or even their God alone. After all, hadn’t he revealed himself as the “God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob
Israel” (Ex 3:6)? According to the Jews, if he was their God, then they would keep him for themselves. How could he be equally the God of others as well?
God is far greater than our narrow conceptions of who he is. We have one God and Father of all.
The reason why God had called Israel was so that through them might come the Messiah, the Saviour of the world. They were to prepare the world for the salvation that was to come by announcing it to all the Gentiles, so that all alike would be justified through the same faith.
However, by hoarding God and his truths for themselves, they distorted God’s message, and their mission, and failed to fulfil God’s purposes.
It’s a very dangerous temptation to become so focused on our own religious affiliation that we forget that God is far greater than our narrow conceptions of who he is. The book of Ephesians tells us that we have:
…one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all (Eph 4:6).
Spiritual Application
As an exercise in extending yourself in your love for other believers, why don’t you visit a church of a denomination other than the one you regularly worship with? Their Biblical understanding might not be precisely the same as yours, and they may worship in a slightly different way, however God still justifies them in the same way as he does you.
