The Triune God’s Operation to Bring Us into New Jerusalem, 1

The three gates on each side of New Jerusalem show that the Triune God is our entrance into the city. Luke 15 presents this in parables.

Luke 15 shows that the three of the Divine Trinity work to bring God’s chosen people into the Father’s house (vv. 22-24), which is the church as the house of the living God in this age (1 Tim. 3:15) and the New Jerusalem as the tabernacle and temple of God in eternity (Rev. 21:3, 22).
Luke 15 unveils the saving love and the operation of the three of the Triune God for sinners so that He can be their triune entrance into the holy city, which is the incorporation of the Triune God with His chosen and redeemed ones.¹

The returning sinner, and all believers, received many blessings in the third parable in Luke 15².
• the father running to him with eagerness to receive him (v. 20)
• the father falling on his neck and kissing him, a loving reception (v. 20)
• the best robe – Christ as the God-satisfying righteousness to cover us (v. 22)
• the ring – the sealing Spirit, a mark of divine ownership (v. 22)
• sandals – God’s salvation separating us from the dirty earth (v. 22)
• the fattened calf – Christ killed on the cross to release the riches of life to us (v. 23)

All of these blessings are for our Christian life today. This is also a wonderful entrance into New Jerusalem where we will enjoy all of these to a greater degree than today.
