The Spirit is the Water of Life
Revelation 22:1 tells us that New Jerusalem has “a river of water of life, bright as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb in the middle of its street.”
In this verse we see the Triune God—God and the Lamb on the throne plus the flowing Spirit. The river of water of life is the Spirit flowing as our life supply. This flow is not only for New Jerusalem but also for us today because, according to 1 Corinthians 12:13, we “were all given to drink one Spirit”.
The water of life is a symbol of God in Christ as the Spirit flowing Himself into His redeemed people to be their life and life supply…symbolized by the water that flowed out of the pierced side of the Lord Jesus (John 19:34).*
This is “the bountiful supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ” in Philippians 1:19.
The Spirit as the flowing water of life is also clearly seen in John 7:38-39. Jesus said, “He who believes into Me, as the Scripture said, out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water. But this He said concerning the Spirit, whom those who believed into Him were about to receive.”
Today we have received the Spirit and He flows in us now and unto and in New Jerusalem.
