The River of Water of Life in the Bible (5)
Ezekiel 47 describes the river flowing out of the house of God. This is an illustration of the Spirit as the river of water of life flowing out of the throne of God and the Lamb in New Jerusalem.
The concluding verse of this part of Ezekiel is, “And on the banks on both sides of the river will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail; but they will bring forth new fruit every month, because the water for them flows out of the sanctuary. And their fruit shall be for food, and their leaves for healing.”
This corresponds with Revelation 22:1-2 in several ways:
• no withering, no failing
• the growth on both sides of the river;
• new fruit every month;
• fruit for food;
• the water flows out from God;
• leaves for healing.
What Ezekiel saw was a preview of life in the coming kingdom before the eternal New Jerusalem is manifested. That life is certainly much better than today and New Jerusalem will be a further step upward.
