The Reality, the River of Water of Life (2)

Jesus continued His speaking about the reality of the river of life in John 7. Here His desire is not only that we receive the water but that the flow would also come forth through us to others.New Jerusalem

Verses 7:38-39, “He who believes into Me, as the Scripture said, out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water. But this He said concerning the Spirit, whom those who believed into Him were about to receive; for the Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.”

Consider “the Spirit was not yet.” The Spirit of God was present at creation but the Spirit in John 7, the Spirit who gives live to and flows through humans, comes forth in the Lord’s resurrection. Glorified in John 7:39 is equivalent to resurrected; compare verses 26 and 46 in Luke 24. Also 1 Corinthians 15—fully in the context of resurrection declares “the last Adam became a life-giving Spirit.”

This Spirit flows into the believers and also flows out of them as rivers (plural). These reivers as the many aspects of what the Spirit is to us, as presented in Galatians 5:22-23 and other verses. This flowing will continue, enlarge, and enrich in eternity in New Jerusalem. Praise God and the Lamb for the flow from their throne!
