The Power Of Christ And His Eternal Kingship
Psalm 110 reveals Jesus as King, Warrior, and Priest. His throne stands unshaken. His priesthood guarantees salvation. Victory belongs to the power filled Christ—and to all who trust in Him.
This Psalm ranks as one of the most quoted Old Testament passages in the New Testament. Jesus referenced it to reveal His divine identity.
Jesus responded, “Then why does David, speaking under the inspiration of the Spirit, call the Messiah’ my Lord’? For David said, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies beneath your feet.’ Matthew 22:41–46
The writer of Hebrews used it to confirm the eternal priesthood of Christ.
Jesus became a priest, not by meeting the physical requirement of belonging to the tribe of Levi, but by the power of a life that cannot be destroyed. And the psalmist pointed this out when he prophesied, “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”. Hebrews 7:16-17
This short Psalm carries profound depth, pulling us into the heart of God’s redemptive plan. David wrote these words under the inspiration of the Spirit. The opening line sets the tone.
The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.” Psalm 110:1
Christ claimed this Psalm by declaring He sits at the Father’s right hand—a position of honor and power.
Jesus said, “I am. And you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Mark 14:62
Christ Reigns in Power with Absolute Authority
The Lord will extend your powerful kingdom from Jerusalem; you will rule over your enemies. Psalm 110:2
The Father exalted Jesus to the highest throne. No rival can challenge Him, no power can dethrone Him. Every enemy will be subdued under His feet. That includes Satan, sin, and death.
- The devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Revelation 20:10
- He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. 1 Peter 2:24
- I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave. Revelation 1:18
Right now, the world feels chaotic, nations rage, cultures shift, and injustice seems unending. None of those things has taken the Lord by surprise because He rules. His throne never shakes.
While evil gains temporary ground, the power of Christ remains certain. Every believer must rest in that promise because when fear whispers, “Everything falls apart.”
We have the answer to those whispers: “Christ rules forever.” So, submit every anxious thought to Jesus. Pray, “Lord, reign over my situation. Take your rightful place in my heart and home.”

Christ Leads a Willing Army
When you go to war, your people will serve you willingly. You are arrayed in holy garments, and your strength will be renewed each day like the morning dew. Psalm 110:3
This verse paints a picture of Jesus leading His people—not with force, but with love and holiness. They cover His people like garments, and their strength flows fresh like morning dew.
This speaks to us today. The Christian life involves spiritual battles. We fight against sin, lies, and despair. But notice the posture of willingness. God desires hearts ready to follow obediently.
Why? Because love fuels service better than fear ever could. Ask yourself if you serve Jesus willingly, or reluctantly?” True discipleship requires joy-filled surrender.
Begin your days by asking the Lord to renew your strength like the morning dew. Continue by asking Him to clothe you in His holiness.

Christ Serves as Our Eternal Priest
The Lord has taken an oath and will not break his vow: “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.” Psalm 110:4
This single verse unlocks the massive truth of the eternal priesthood of Christ. Unlike the Levitical priests, who offered sacrifices repeatedly, Jesus didn’t need to do that.
Through the power of the resurrection, Christ offered one perfect sacrifice for all time—Himself. His priesthood never ends, because His life never ends. He constantly intercedes for us.
Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, interceding for us. Romans 8:3
Remember when guilt tries to put you in chains, your High Priest lives and prays for you. When the enemy throws accusations at you, Jesus answers with His blood.
When you feel unworthy, Christ reminds you that He covered you by His sacrifice. Don’t carry shame you’ve already confessed. Declare, “Jesus intercedes for me; His priesthood never fails.”

Victory and Refreshing
The Psalmist closed this Psalm with triumph. He pointed to Christ’s ultimate return in power when He crushes evil and restores perfect justice.
He will punish the nations and fill their lands with corpses; he will shatter heads over the whole earth. But he himself will be refreshed from brooks along the way. He will be victorious. Psalm 110:6-7
Even the mighty King drinks in renewal during the mission. If the Son found refreshment, how much more should we pause and drink deeply of God’s Word and presence?

Practical Steps in Psalm 110 to Live in the Power of Christ
- Declare Christ’s Lordship Daily— Speak out loud, “Jesus, you reign over my life, my family, and my work.”
- Serve Willingly— Look for one act of service you can do joyfully this week for someone in need.
- Rest in His Priesthood— When guilt creeps in, remind yourself, “Christ intercedes for me.”
- Stay Spiritually Hydrated— Take time each day to drink from Scripture, even if only for a few minutes.
Lord, you are the Christ who holds all power. Help me trust your power when life feels uncertain. Make me a willing servant clothed in holiness. Thank you for interceding for me.
