The Keys To Intimacy With God - Part 3 - Pursuing Intimacy With God

The Keys To Intimacy With God – Part 3

What are the keys to intimacy with God ? How can we have the closest possible and most intimate fellowship with God ? And oneness and unity with Him ? And a partnership with God in His kingdom work and mission ?

In this 3 part series of Bible study articles we will look at the keys to intimacy with God. In Part 1 we looked at the first 2 keys to intimacy with God, and in Part 2 we looked at the next 3 keys to intimacy with God. In this article we will look at the final 3 keys to intimacy with God.

Remember that intimacy with God is all about having a restored and close relationship with God, and is not the same as a religion. Religion is very much different than having a restored relationship with God through His son Jesus Christ. Being that it is a relationship, the keys to intimacy with God are similar to some of the keys to have a good relationship.

The Keys To Intimacy With God

The Keys to Intimacy With God – #6 – You Speak (Prayer)

This is the 2nd part of having intimate communication with God. The first and most important part is allowing God to speak first. This shows reverence and respect to God.

God wants you to speak to Him. And not just to make your prayer requests and ask for things. God wants you to share your heart with Him. Whatever you are going through, God wants you to share it with Him. And even carry you through it when you need Him to.

Acts 1:14 “Acts 1:14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.”

Acts 2:42 “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

1 John 5:14-15 “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him.”

Psalm 55:22 “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.”

Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

We Need to Devote Ourselves to God And to Prayer

Colossians 4:2 “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. “

Matthew 7:7 “Ask (“keep on asking”) and it will be given to you; seek (“keep on seeking”) and you will find; knock (“keep on knocking”) and the door will be opened to you.”

God wants us to talk to Him about and involve Him in all aspects of our life. And He wants us to have a lifestyle of prayer & talking to Him. God wants us to share our heart and our life with Him, including our needs, hurts, and struggles. God loves you and He wants you to involve Him in your life. He cares, so He wants to hear from you.

The Keys to Intimacy With God – #7 – Time & Effort To Seek And Know God

John 17:3 “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”

Luke 10:38-39 “As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the LORD’s feet listening to what he said.”

Exodus 33:13, 17-18 “If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you”… And the LORD said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.” Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”

Luke 6:12-13 “One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles.”

It takes time and effort to seek and know God. Seek is an active word, requiring action. You need to have in your heart the priority of having God as your First Love, Treasure, and Passion. When God is your First Love, Treasure, and Passion, then you will take the time and make the effort to know Him more and more.

God Wants to Reveal Himself to You

Matthew 11:25-27 – “At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, LORD of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

Philippians 3:8,10 – “What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my LORD, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ-the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ-yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death”

God wants you to know Him in real and personal ways. Not just to read about Him. But to actually know Him by seeing and experiencing Him in your life. And in the lives of others.

When You Love Someone You Want to Be With Them

When you love someone you want to know them more & more. You want to spend time with them. It takes time & effort & desire & determination in order to get to know God. It is a lifelong process and a heart attitude. A heart attitude of desire and passion for God.

The Keys to Intimacy With God – #8 – Honesty

Can any relationship be a good one without honesty ? It is the same with our relationship and fellowship with God. We need to be honest with God. About our sins. And our struggles and weaknesses. About everything.

Psalm 62:8 “Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”

Psalm 13:1-4 “How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? And how long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart all the day? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death, and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my adversaries will rejoice when I am shaken.”

Psalm 22:1-2, 14-15 “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my deliverance are the words of my [c]groaning. O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer; and by night, but I have no rest… I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And You lay me [m]in the dust of death.”

God wants you to share your heart with Him. And because He cares deeply for you, He wants to share in whatever you are going through. And walk with you in everything. And even carry you and your burdens when you need Him to.

God Wants You to Pour Out Our Hearts to Him

1 Samuel 1:10-11 “In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the LORD, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying, “LORD Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”

Psalm 51:2-4, 10-12 “Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.”… “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”

God Wants to Be Involved In Your Life

God wants you to “pour out your heart to Him” (Psalm 62:8). Whatever it is you are feeling and going through, God wants to hear about it. Because He deeply cares for you. God wants you to be open and honest with Him. Note how David would be completely honest with God in some of the Psalms (Psalm 13, 22,…). Hannah poured out her heart and soul to God when she was in anguish about not having a child. God is always truthful with us, and He wants us to be truthful and open and honest with Him.

Make knowing God and having intimacy with God your main desire and pursuit. Nothing will please Him more. The more you know Jesus the more you will love Him. And trust Him. And delight in Him, and follow and obey Him.

May you experience the joy of knowing Jesus more and more.

We are all going to have good chapters and bad chapters. We’re going to have times when we think, I do not like this story and other times we think, I do like this story. The key is to not get stuck in life’s difficult chapters but keep moving to the flow of the Author’s pen. God is still writing your story.Father, some chapters of my story that are so difficult. However, I know You can use all the broken pieces to make a magnificent masterpiece. Help me not get stuck in a bad chapter due to disappointment or discouragement, but to keep moving forward, knowing there is more to be written. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.Where are you right now?
