The Incorruptible God, Our Inheritance
A recent series of posts ends with Ephesians 6:24, “Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ in incorruptibility.” Here are more verses with “incorruptible” which relate to New Jerusalem.
Romans 1:23 and 1 Timothy 1:17 are about the “incorruptible God.” Everything of the old creation is subject to corruption but God Himself is incorruptible. This God imparted Himself into us when we were “regenerated not of corruptible seed but of incorruptible, through the living and abiding word of God” (1 Peter 1:23).
This regeneration is in our human spirit, yet we must remember that in this age we still have our physical body which is corruptible flesh.
We are now being built together in and by this incorruptible life by the growth from the “incorruptible seed.” This building work is in Christ (Eph. 2:20-22). Today this is the building of the Body of Christ; in eternity, including the Old Testament people of God, the consummation of this building is New Jerusalem.
First Peter tells us that our regeneration is “unto an inheritance, incorruptible and undefiled and unfading, kept in the heavens for you” (1 Peter 1:4). This inheritance includes much: the salvation of our souls (1:5, 9), the glory to be revealed (5:1), the unfading crown of glory (5:4), and the eternal glory (5:10).
These characteristics of glory point to New Jerusalem, the eternal manifestation of glory. and the ultimate portion of our inheritance.
