Spiritual Eating on our Path to New Jerusalem (3)
The pictures, the shadows, of our real spiritual eating include the tree of life in the garden of Eden and the passover lamb. The next shadow is the manna in Exodus 16. In John 6:31-33 the Lord Jesus clearly told us that manna is a picture of Him, that “the bread of God is He who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.”
Manna was the daily nourishment for the Israelites, enabling them to move through the wilderness on their journey to the good land. Likewise, Jesus Christ is our daily bread from heaven who energizes us to move through the social, economic, and political wilderness around us as we move forward to New Jerusalem.
The Israelites had to go out, collect, and prepare manna six days every week. In the same way we should take the Lord Jesus as our spiritual bread every day. The Lord told us, “I am the living bread which came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he shall live forever; and the bread which I will give is My flesh, given for the life of the world” (John 6:51).
By this eating bread we both have life forever and are supplied to live day by day. This is our path to New Jerusalem.
