Spiritual Eating on our Path to New Jerusalem (2)
We have spiritual nourishment to grow in the divine, eternal life. We grow to reach maturity. The Old Testament has some symbols of this eating. The first is the tree of life in Genesis 2. The second symbol for us to consider is the passover lamb in Exodus 12. Of course, that is only a shadow with Jesus Christ is the reality. First Corinthians 5:7 tells us definitely that Christ is our passover.
There are two parts of the passover. First is the blood put on the sides and the top of the door frame outside the house (Exo. 12:7). This portrays the blood shed by Jesus to redeem us and qualify us to receive Him as life. The blood on the door frame is the source of the name passover; the Lord said “when I see the blood, I will pass over you” (v. 12:13).
The second part is “eat the flesh in that night, roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with unleavened bread” (Exo. 12:8). Then verse 11 instructs “And this is how you shall eat it: with your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste. It is Jehovah’s passover.”
These verses show us that what was eaten of the passover lamb strengthened the Israelites to walk out of Egypt to begin their journey to the good land. Likewise, when we eat Christ our Passover, we are strengthened to leave many things to begin our journey to the unsearchable riches of Christ in New Jerusalem.
