Spirit Filled and Defeating Sin

Destroying the Works of the Devil

If the purpose of Jesus coming was to destroy the works of the devil. In what ways can we destroy the strongholds of the devil?

Jesus didn’t come to manage the devil’s works. He came to destroy them (1 John 3:8). And here’s the good news — He still wants to.

So how do we partner with that?

James 4:7 lays it out plainly: submit to God, resist the devil, and he flees. Notice the order. Submission comes first. You can’t skip straight to “I rebuke you, Satan” and expect results if your life isn’t surrendered to God. That’s like borrowing the armor without reporting for duty.

Jesus modeled the method in the wilderness. Every time the enemy came at Him, He answered with three words: “It is written” (Matthew 4). The Word wasn’t just His defense — it was His weapon.

Paul adds that our weapons aren’t natural — they’re divinely powerful for pulling down strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4).

The bottom line? Walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16), know the Word, and the enemy loses his foothold. He’s already defeated. We just have to stop handing him the keys.
