Praise The Lord In The Seasons Of Your Life
Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven! And praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness! Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn; praise him with the lyre and harp! Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Yes, praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals. Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord! Psalm 150:1-6
God chose Psalm 150 as the grand finale in the Bible’s hymnbook, the Book of Psalms. From the very first verse to the last, this Psalm resounds with one single theme: praise the Lord.
It seems the 149 psalms before it—whether filled with joy, sorrow, confession, or victory —led us to this point. Psalm 150 gives us a clear message to live by.
It doesn’t matter what has happened, where we find ourselves, or what we have faced. This Psalm comes alive with simplicity and power, revealing the worthiness of our praise to the Lord.
We began this devotion by reading the six verses that make up this Psalm. Let’s break those verses down and apply their message to our daily lives.
Praising God Has No Boundaries
Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven! Psalm 150:1
“Praise the Lord!” comes from the Hebrew word Hallelujah. This word has traveled across cultures and languages unchanged because it carries a timeless and universal call to worship.
Praise the Lord in His sanctuary! The Psalmist specified that God’s people gather for worship. Worship Him in the church or the temple and unite together in sacred spaces to lift up His name.
To praise Him in His mighty heaven widens the scope of where we can worship Him. It reminds us that we have the freedom to praise the Lord today, tomorrow, and for all eternity.
This means no matter where we find ourselves, we can praise Him. Inside a church, driving to work, sitting at home, or walking under the stars, we can’t escape God’s presence.

Praise the Lord for Who He Is and What He Has Done
Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness! Psalm 150:2
Praise Him for His mighty works. Where do we start? How about we look around and praise Him for all His creation. We can praise the Lord for all He has done for humanity throughout history.
Also, praises to Him for the countless ways He has extended His grace and mercy to each of us.
Praise Him for His unequaled greatness. Unequaled because we have nothing to compare it to.
We don’t limit our praise to Him by our circumstances. Neither do we base it solely on blessings we can see. We worship God and praise His name because of His unchanging nature.

We Express Our Praise Through Musical Creativity
In the following three verses, the Psalmist lists instruments we can use to praise the Lord with. He mentioned a ram’s horns, lyres, harps, tambourines, dancing, strings, flutes, and cymbals.
Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn; praise him with the lyre and harp! Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Yes, praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals. Psalm 150:3–5
That variety of instruments demonstrates that God delights in diversity when it comes to praising Him. Those verses don’t say “if” you can play an instrument, but just use them to praise Him.
Look at the words the Psalmist used. Praise Him with a blast of the ram’s horn. Offer Him praise with a clash of cymbals. I like this one, praise Him with loud clanging cymbals. One Psalm says.
Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Psalm 100:1-2
If praising the Lord required only gifted musicians, then God would have gifted all of us to play. Instead, praise the Lord with a shout, a blast, a clash, and a clang, which anyone can do.

Praise the Lord! Everyone!
Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord! Psalm 150:6
What a sweeping declaration for every living being to sing praises to the Lord. God has gifted us with every breath, and each one we exhale offers an offering of gratitude. Paul reminds us;
For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen. Romans 11:36
How Can We Live Out Psalm 150
Let’s examine how this Psalm can apply to our daily lives. Begin your day with praise. Thank the Lord before you even reach for your phone. Turn mundane moments into worship.
Whether washing dishes or commuting to work, fill those spaces with praise and prayers. Praise the Lord in the hard times, like Paul and Silas did by worshiping God even during painful times.
Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Acts 16:25
Best of all, joining with others creates a powerful time of praise and worship. Never underestimate the power of believers gathering together for corporate worship.
Psalm 150 puts an exclamation point at the end of the book of Psalms, yet it extends throughout eternity. Its praises extend beyond the here and now, while offering us a glimpse of heaven.
And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang: “Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.” Revelation 5:13
So, practice, practice, practice, because our praise today serves as practice for eternity. One day, every voice will praise the Lord by declaring His Blessing, honor, glory, and power.
This Psalm reminds us that praise belongs everywhere and from every living being. The Psalmist began and ended with the same phrase—”Praise the Lord!”
Lord, thank You for the gift of praise. Help me to worship you with my whole heart—in joy, in sorrow, in the ordinary moments and the extraordinary ones.
