New Jerusalem Seen in Ephesians, 17
Ephesians 5 continues from chapter 4 with warnings concerning our daily living and conduct. These warnings concern matters and actions which come from the old, fallen creation and will not be in the new creation, hence not seen or heard in New Jerusalem.
But in these warnings are a few positive points. Verse 5:2* says “walk in love, even as Christ also loved us.” Certainly New Jerusalem, built up in the divine love (4:16) will be full of love from God to us and from us to God.
Verse 5:8 proclaims, “you…are now light in the Lord; walk as children of light.” First John 1:5 has the announcement, “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” As His children we have Him as light and walk in Him. When John saw New Jerusalem “having the glory of God” he told us the city’s “light was like a most precious stone.”
Also, Revelation 21:25 tells us about New Jerusalem, “there will be no night there”. Revelation 22:5 repeats, “night will be no more.” New Jerusalem has the characteristic of God—light and no darkness at all. We as His children should live with no spiritual darkness today and we will live with neither spiritual nor physical darkness in New Jerusalem.
