New Jerusalem Seen in Ephesians, 16

Ephesians 4:17-32 focuses on our daily living now, “that you no longer walk as the Gentiles also walk in the vanity of their mind.” All of what we are warned here will not be in the new creation. But there are a few pointers to that time.

New JerusalemVerse 23: “be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” We need to be fully renewed today to match the complete newness of New Jerusalem.

Verse 23 is parallel to Romans 12:2, “be transformed by the renewing of the mind that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and well pleasing and perfect.” New Jerusalem will fully and perfectly prove the will of God; its condition will be good and well pleasing and perfect.

Verse 24: “put on the new man, which was created according to God in righteousness and holiness of the reality.” In position we are already in the new man but we need to put this newness on in practicality. Then our daily living will be in righteousness and holiness matching New Jerusalem, the city of holiness in the new creation full of righteousness (2 Peter 2:13).

        Cultivating a Generous Heart

It’s always ironic to me that after Thanksgiving—a holiday to pause, reflect, and give thanks—Black Friday follows immediately after. It’s a day of deals, frenzy, and the push to buy more and more. Buying things isn’t necessarily bad, but it’s striking how quickly the world tries to steer our hearts from gratitude toward discontentment, comparison, and a scarcity mindset. But Jesus teaches us an upside-down way of living. He taught lessons like: "the first shall be last," "whoever wants to gain
