New Jerusalem Foreseen in Ephesians, 9
Ephesians focuses on God’s eternal purpose and His good pleasure which is to release life in Christ into all His people to bring forth a living building in Christ culminating in New Jerusalem. This post continues into Ephesians 3 looking at parallels between Ephesians and New Jerusalem.
Paul reports in verse 3:2* that grace was given to him for his ministry in God’s economy. Three prior posts show the relationship between grace and New Jerusalem. This grace is related to the mystery of Christ which was revealed to him and communicated to us in the epistles he wrote (3:3-4).
The church, the Body of Christ, His fullness (1:22-23) was a mystery from eternity until God revealed it to His apostles and prophets (3:5). New Jerusalem was also a mystery. The Body of Christ and the holy city are not human inventions; they are divine in conception, nature, revelation and accomplishment.
These revelations were “in spirit” (3:5) and we need “a spirit of wisdom and revelation” (1:17) to know these matters.
This revelation includes the fact that we are “in Christ Jesus” both now and unto New Jerusalem. We are also “fellow members of the Body and fellow partakers of the promise through the gospel.” In the future we will be members of New Jerusalem and eternal partakers of God’s promises which will come to us in the river of water of life from His throne.
