May You Experience The Favor Of God
The short song of Psalm 67 shines like a diamond in Scripture with an eternal brilliance. Its seven verses carry a message that reshapes our understanding of the blessings and favor of God.
This Psalm doesn’t picture blessings as a private treasure for personal gain. Instead, it presents blessings and favor flowing outward like a river, carrying the glory of God to every nation.
May God be merciful and bless us. May his face smile with favor on us. Psalm 67:1
At first glance, this Psalm sounds similar to the priestly blessing in Numbers. The Lord instructed Moses for Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel with this special blessing.
- May the Lord bless you and protect you.
- May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you.
- And may the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace. Numbers 6:24-26
Along with the blessings and favor from God in Psalm 67, the next verse adds a missional heartbeat. The Psalmist went beyond the borders of Israel to include the entire earth.
May your ways be known throughout the earth, your saving power among people everywhere. Psalm 67:2
Let’s explore three truths that we can glean from this Psalm. God offers us His favor with purpose, God deserves global praise, and God invites us into His mission.
God Offers His Favor with Purpose
Verse 1 asks for God’s mercy and blessing, and for His face to shine upon His people. This reflects Israel’s long-standing desire for the divine favor of God..
Verse two, however, connects God’s blessings with His mission. The Psalmist wants people throughout the world to know God’s ways and the salvation of the Lord.
The blessings and favor of God never end with us. The move through us. Imagine a pipeline carrying water to a city. If the water stops at the pipe, the city remains thirsty.
Likewise, when God blesses His people, He intends that favor to flow outward, revealing His goodness to the nations. So, why do you want God’s blessing?
Do you want it for comfort, security, and ease? Or do you see it as fuel for His mission? God blesses us so that others taste His grace, experience His truth, and surrender in worship.

God Deserves Global Praise
May the nations praise you, O God. Yes, may all the nations praise you. Psalm 67:3
This request appears twice, in verses 3 and 5, forming a refrain. The Psalmist envisioned a world united in worship, where every tribe and tongue lifts God’s name in praise.
Why does he long for this? Because God deserves universal glory. When watching news broadcasts, we see nations filled with conflict, idolatry, and injustice.
But God promises a future where the earth will ring with His praise. Revelation shows a great multitude from every nation standing before the throne, worshiping the Lamb.
They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. And they were shouting with a great roar, “Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne and from the Lamb!” Revelation 7:9-10
Salvation for the world came through the Jewish nation. But God never intended for it to stay only within that nation. Psalm 67 continues by pointing toward God’s global vision.
Let the whole world sing for joy, because you govern the nations with justice and guide the people of the whole world. Psalm 67:4
God’s leadership brings joy, not oppression. The world often groans under corrupt rulers, but God governs with righteousness.
The Psalmist prayed for nations to recognize this truth and respond with joy. This means evangelism and missions aim for more than conversion statistics. They aim for worship.
May the nations praise you, O God. Yes, may all the nations praise you. Psalm 67:5
When someone trusts Christ, heaven gains another voice in the choir of global praise. The Psalmist calls us to seek God’s glory among the nations because He alone deserves it.

God Invites Us into His Mission
Then the earth will yield its harvests, and God, our God, will richly bless us. Yes, God will bless us, and people all over the world will fear him. Psalm 67:6-7
God promises abundance—not as an end, but as a means to global reverence. Every blessing, every favor we receive from God carries the label: “For Kingdom Use.”
When we hoard blessings, we short-circuit God’s purpose. When we share them, His glory spreads. So, consider the following practical ways to join the mission of God.

Reaching Others to Receive the Favor of God
- Pray globally. Use Psalm 67 as a prayer guide. Ask God to reveal His ways to unreached peoples. Pray for missionaries by name.
- Give generously. Support gospel work locally and internationally. Every dollar can become a seed for eternal fruit.
- Go willingly. Some will cross oceans; others will cross streets. Both steps matter. God calls us to reach neighbors and nations alike.
- Live intentionally. Speak of Christ in your workplace. Invite someone to church. Use social media to share Scripture, not just opinions.
- Imagine if every prayer for the blessings and favor of God included these words from this Psalm. “So that your ways may be known on earth.” How different would our lives look?
Instead of asking for comfort, we would ask for opportunities. Instead of storing blessings, we would scatter them like seed.
Rather than shrinking inward, we would stretch outward—toward the nations, toward eternity. That’s the message of Psalm 67. It calls us to live with a global vision.
Today, let’s not focus our prayer on ourselves; let’s pray Psalm 67 with fresh eyes. Then ask God how you can let His blessings and favor flow through you.
“May God be merciful and bless us. May his face smile with favor on us. And may your ways be known throughout the earth, your saving power among people everywhere.”
