Long Days & Quick Years

Ever heard that saying: “the days are long but the years fly by“.

It is truly a sobering thought when we sit back and realize how quickly time flies. The days can seem long and dragging at times when we think of all that we have to do and get done. But that’s the vital importance of learning to rely on the unlimited power of the most High God.

I am learning this more and more.

The Bible says talks about a thousand years being like a day.

A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.Psalm 90:4 (NIV)

We serve a God who is not limited or segmented by time. He operates with time and uses it to achieve His purpose. But God is not dictated by time constraints. We learn to follow God’s time rather than the world’s time.

I am speaking in parables to some extent as a way to also give myself grace.

June 2026 was the 9th year anniversary of musingswithmo.com and it seemed to pass by like a blimp because honestly the days have been flying by and some of the days have felt like they dragged by. If you are a frequent reader of the blog, you are already used to some of the unannounced breaks and hiatuses we take on here, so nothing new! Lol, but I think it is important that we learn to offer ourselves grace.

As long as we give God time to do in us and with us as He sees fit, we shouldn’t be tied down to a specific timeline or time frame. Time helps us recognize and set milestones such as the passage of 1 year when we celebrate our birthdays or some form of anniversary. It is helpful to evaluate ourselves and to see how far we have come.

The result of such reflection should always lead us to one conclusion – GRATITUDE.

No matter how we may feel there is a way that a heart of gratitude and a mindset of complete gratitude to God reorients our minds and sets our thoughts on eternal things rather than temporal things.

The passage of time and the existence of it is also a way for us to be more on guard. My grandfather passed away at the age of 101 years old in June 2026 and I am grateful to God for the life he lived.

    (Lessons from Madam Beatrice)

He was a good man. He was the only grandfather I met in person and my experience of him was that he was a loving, gentle, upright man who stood by his family and cared for his family. He was always smiling and happy. I don’t remember my grandfather being upset or angry. Time apart can sometimes blur our memories but my grandfather lived a long life and for that I am incredibly grateful.

People’s experiences and interactions with us is what they will remember when we are long gone.

The verse of scripture that always comes to my mind is:

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom- Psalms 90:12 (NIV)

The prayer is that we live long and in great health but most importantly that we live purposeful and fruitful lives. That our lives will be a testament for generations to come of what it means to live submitted and totally surrendered to God. Jesus Christ being the cornestone of our lives.

So while the days might feel long at times, the years fly by and I pray that God helps us to utilize our time and milestones to the best of our abilities in a way that ultimately glorifies Him. And may God bring to perfect completion the good work He began in us until the day of Christ Jesus.

Happy 9th Anniversary to the musingswithmo community. God has kept us, God has preserved us and I pray that the reason why God has instituted this platform will forever be accomplished to the glory of His name, in Jesus precious name. AMEN
