Let All That I Am Praise The Lord

Praise the Lord! Let all that I am praise the Lord. I will praise the Lord as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath. Psalm 146:1-2

Psalm 146 opens and closes with the command to “Praise the Lord!” The Psalmist calls us to lift our voices in worship and anchor our hearts in God’s eternal faithfulness.

In between those two praises, the Psalmist makes a declaration that carries conviction and permanence. He didn’t praise God only in prosperity but committed it to a lifetime of worship.

Praise comes from more than our emotions. It comes because we decide to praise Him. Praise is a rhythm of the heart that says, Let all that I am praise Him.

How often do distractions in your life drown out your songs of praise? Things like busyness, frustration, and hardship can silence our gratitude.

Does God Really Put A High Value On Us?

Yet the Psalmist demonstrated how intentional worship serves as a determination to praise the Lord in every season. It solidifies an attitude that says, “Let all that I am praise Him.”

When choosing to magnify the Lord, our focus shifts from temporary concerns to the eternal stability of God’s kingdom. It comes down to every believer must face a choice.

Will we praise the unchanging Lord or complain about our ever-changing circumstances? Praise reminds us of God’s stability as life wavers. The Psalmist quickly turned from praise to caution.

    The Psalmist’s Caution

Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. Psalm 146:3-4

All human strength, no matter how impressive, carries limits. Influential leaders can inspire confidence, yet none of them possesses ultimate control over life or destiny.

Even the most capable rulers breathe only as long as God allows. Even though others try to continue with their ideas and authority, they dissolve at their death.

The Psalmist challenges today’s tendency to depend on political, social, or economic systems for security. Each generation encounters a temptation to look to earthly powers for salvation.

But history has repeatedly proven that governments change, economies falter, and leaders fail.

Therefore, the Psalmist’s words cut through any illusions of human stability.

Man’s plans collapse, but God’s purposes endure. Trusting in people can create anxiety, but trusting in God extends His peace within us.

So, instead of anchoring our hope to human abilities, we can find true blessings by trusting in the Lord. The Psalmist continued with that line of thinking.

But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God. Psalm 146:5

The God of Israel represents covenant faithfulness. This same God who guided Abraham, Isaac, and Israel also guides us. He never has and never will abandon His promises.

Those who depend on Him experience an unshakable foundation amid life’s uncertainties. No wonder the Psalmist uttered these encouraging words, Let all that I am praise the Lord.

    All That I Am

The Lord Who Acts on Behalf of His People

Starting with verse 6, the Psalmist listed actions ascribed to God. He painted a vivid portrait of the Lord’s attributes. With his description, no wonder he said With all that I am, I will praise Him.

The following words reveal a God who acts decisively and moves with compassion and purpose. He made, He keeps, He gives, He frees, He opens, He lifts up, He loves, He protects, and cares.

He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. And He keeps every promise forever. Psalm 146:6

The Creator of all things not only formed the universe but also maintains it. The Psalmist emphasized that creation itself testifies to the Lord’s reliability.

He gives justice to the oppressed and food to the hungry. The Lord frees the prisoners. Psalm 146:7

God’s care flows toward everyone, especially those overlooked by society. He defends the helpless and supplies for the needy. Each action reflects His mercy.

We saw the perfect fulfillment of these promises in Jesus when He walked on the earth. He fed the hungry, healed the blind, and set captives free from their bondage.

The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down. And the Lord loves the godly. Psalm 146:8

In reality, when life feels heavy, remember the Lord will lift us up. When confusion clouds our minds, He opens our eyes. When despair whispers defeat, the Lord loves us beyond measure.

    All That I Am

    God’s Justice and Protection

The Lord protects the foreigners among us. He cares for the orphans and widows, but he frustrates the plans of the wicked. Psalm 146:9

God’s justice embraces those who live in the margins. His heart extends to strangers, widows, and orphans. He defends the defenseless and provides refuge for the forgotten.

The Lord has called the church (you and me) to mirror these nine attributes of God’s heart. Our faith finds expression in worship when we welcome the outsider and care for the helpless.

As followers of Christ, we reflect His compassion by serving and caring for others. The Psalmist concluded this Psalm with an unshakable hope.

The Lord will reign forever. He will be your God, O Jerusalem, throughout the generations. Praise the Lord! Psalm 146:10

Living a Life that will Praise Him with “All That I Am”

Psalm 146 offers more than poetry—it provides a pattern for daily living. Here are practical ways to apply its truth

    • Choose to praise daily. Begin and end each day with thanksgiving. Praise shifts your focus from worry to worship.
    • Anchor your hope in God, not people. Respect leaders, but place ultimate trust only in the Lord who never fails.
    • Serve God with compassion. Reflect God’s heart by helping the oppressed, feeding the hungry, and caring for those in need.
    • Remember God’s promises. When circumstances shake your confidence, recall His unchanging faithfulness.
    • Live with eternal perspective. God reigns forever. Let that truth steady your heart and shape your priorities. Then praise Him with an “All That I Am” attitude.

All That I Am to the Lord

Praise lifts the believer above the instability of this world. It redirects our attention from what fails to the One who never fails.

Psalm 146 invites us to live with unwavering trust—rejoicing in the Lord who creates, sustains, defends, and reigns forever. So, join me when I shout with my soul and all that I am to the Lord.

Lord, you are the great I Am, and we see all the attributes laid out in this Psalm. Help us to live our lives so that we mirror them as we serve you daily.
