LEST THEY TURN TO ATTACK YOU…

Right before I woke up, I dreamt I was leaving a house at night, walking home after finishing an assignment. I heard a commotion and loud barking behind me. All the sudden, a huge dog came from behind the house and headed straight for me. He was in attack mode and was clearly coming for me. There was nowhere I could run and I had no time to react. And yet, right when the dog was about to run me down, he stopped and just looked at me, as if frozen in time. His bark was fierce, but he could not follow through. And I wondered what had prompted his assault.

“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you”
    (Matthew 7:6).

As one who loves to share what I believe the Lord gives me, I know this dream is a word of caution. Maybe others can relate. Wisdom and care is needed when stewarding the things of God. Not everyone is able to receive what God wants to give. Sharing the treasures of God’s heart is a sacred charge and sometimes those treasures are meant for prayer and not publication or promotion. Sometimes the insights we receive are not to be spoken, but simply pondered.

If you are one who is carrying those kinds of treasures, choose wisely what you speak and to whom you speak. Consider the readiness of the hearer before you give them those pearls of great price. Sometimes withholding truth is not negligence, but wisdom rightly applied.

And if the dogs do come after you, know that their growls are but a smokescreen for an empty cause. That which is of God will stand, regardless of the commotion.
