Jesus Paid the Full Ransom For All People
He (Jesus) has paid a full ransom for his people. He has guaranteed his covenant with them forever. What a holy, awe-inspiring name he has! Psalm 111:9
The Psalmist made a statement without knowing who he referenced. He pointed straight to Jesus when he said that “He” paid a full ransom. He framed this Psalm, however, with praise.
It opened with a bold call to “Praise the Lord” by setting the stage to invite hearts into worship. Then he recounted God’s character and His works before ending with the same command.
This time, he expanded his final declaration with, “Praise him forever!” The beginning and end formed the frame of worship. Everything within the frame pointed back to the worthiness of God.
This rhythm teaches us the practicality of allowing praise to surround our days. When we awake, let thanksgiving set the tone. When we rest at night, let worship close that day’s chapter.
Praise guards our hearts and reminds us of God’s faithfulness. Praise also reminds us of the day when Jesus paid the way for us to join Him in heaven. A price only Jesus could have paid.
How amazing are the deeds of the Lord! All who delight in him should ponder them. Everything he does reveals his glory and majesty. His righteousness never fails. Psalm 111:2-3
These words draw our attention away from the ordinary to see God’s extraordinary hand at work. For humans, the word “never” sparks controversy, but with God, it stands as a complete reality.

God is For Us
Scripture backs itself up. An Old Testament Psalm works with a New Testament epistle. They show that each of our moments carries divine purposes.
- The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand. Psalm 37:23-24
- And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28
According to Psalm 111, even painful seasons can reflect His majesty. Each step becomes an opportunity for God to shine through us.
He causes us to remember his wonderful works. How gracious and merciful is our Lord! Psalm 111:4
How often do we underestimate our daily lives? Yet God uses the seemingly small and the deeply difficult to reveal His glory. His righteousness stands unshaken in every situation.
All he does is just and good, and all his commandments are trustworthy. They are forever true, to be obeyed faithfully and with integrity. Psalm 111:7-8
We often use the word “forever.” But many times we use it out of its proper context because we can’t grasp its reality. Impatience may ask, ‘Where have you been? I’ve been waiting forever.’
In its biblical context, though, God’s commandments remain true forever. Therefore, they deserve our faithful obedience. God’s Word does not expire or lose its authority.
Jesus affirmed this truth when He condensed the commandments to “love God and love your neighbor as yourself.” Living with love honors God’s forever commands.
His instructions don’t exist to burden us but to free us. Like guardrails on a winding road, they protect and guide us toward life. Obedience becomes not a restriction but a gift of wisdom.

Jesus Paid the Full Ransom
In verse 9, the Psalmist declared some words that carry prophetic weight. Centuries before Jesus, he pointed ahead to the redemption that He ultimately paid for the human race.
He has paid a full ransom for his people. He guaranteed his covenant with them forever. We find the Psalmist using the word ‘forever’ a second time.
Jesus fulfilled this promise at the cross, where He paid the ransom in full. His sacrifice was not partial or temporary. The word full means complete. The writer of Hebrews affirmed this truth.
For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time. Hebrews 10:10
This ransom reaches beyond one nation or generation. It extends to all people. Every person who calls on the name of Jesus receives freedom from sin’s penalty marked paid in full.
The Psalmist emphasized that God guaranteed His covenant forever. Paul echoed this same thought when taught that God sealed and guaranteed our eternal inheritance.
And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. Ephesians 1:13-14
When doubts creep in about your salvation, we remember God’s guarantee. Our redemption rests not on shifting feelings but on His unchanging Word and Spirit. Remember, Jesus paid for it all.

Fear of the Lord and True Wisdom
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever! Psalm 111:10
According to verse ten, true wisdom does not begin with intelligence, experience, or age. It starts with reverence for God. To fear the Lord means to live in awe of His holiness.
It also means honoring His authority and submitting to His will. Terror doesn’t drive us away; instead, His reverence draws us near to Him. Wisdom grows as we obey His Word.
Obedience acts like soil that nurtures the seed of wisdom. The more faithfully we walk in God’s ways, the more His wisdom flourishes in us. He comforts us in trials and clarifies our confusion.
Psalm 111 urges us to live with gratitude for redemption and trust God’s Word with reverence for His holiness. Jesus paid the full ransom, and God sealed the covenant with His Spirit.

So, how do we respond?
- Praise the Lord daily – Let thanksgiving begin and end each day.
- Trust God’s Word – Obey His commands with integrity.
- Rest in redemption – Remember that Jesus paid the price in full.
- Live reverently – Choose awe and obedience over pride and self-reliance.
As we walk this way, our wisdom grows. Our lives shine with God’s glory, and our voices echo the Psalmist’s call to “Praise him forever!” Praise Jesus because He paid our ransom in full.
Lord, thank you for sending Jesus, who paid the full ransom for our salvation. Thank you for guiding us through your Word and for sealing your promises with the Holy Spirit.
