Iron Sharpens Iron
What is one lesson I am hoping to build on in 2026? Iron sharpens Iron.
This encapsulates the value of community and learning not to do life alone. A dear brother in his book “Men of Like Passions” (available for free download here), stated that ‘the secret in being exceptional is not in being extraordinary, but in relying on Christ.’ We can try and try and still this mortal body will fail because that is what it was designed to do. Yet, when we do what by God’s design we were designed to do which is to depend wholly on Christ, then we enter into His pace of grace.
We did a podcast recording where Iremide discussed his book!
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. – 2 Peter 1:3 (NIV)
Some key takeaways for me:
- The verse states that it is His DIVINE POWER and not our wisdom, strength or intellect, but God’s that makes all grace sufficient unto us.
- Through His power we have EVERYTHING we NEED. Our needs are totally met and fulfilled in Christ when we desire to know Him and to know His ways.
- It is through our knowledge of Him that we can truly live a godly life.
As someone that is starting to notice some of the wear and tear on our mortal bodies, I can attest to this. The bounce back we have in our younger years changes over time. But, what never changes? God’s consistency, His mercy, His grace and the gift of people in the form of community and accountability.
I will forever be an advocate for this, even as I learn how to better harness my community more effectively.
No matter how dull an iron piece is, it still has the ability to perform its duty. It may cut after multiple movements but it will eventually cut. And the more contact one iron has with another, the sharper it becomes and the nature of one sharpening one another becomes better and more precise.
What do we do when we experience moments of despair and destituteness?
In this fallen world it’s not a matter of if but when we do experience those low moments, what can we do to encourage ourself in the Lord.
Yet, we have an assurance of our complete victory. It is only having come out of the other end of the tunnel that we can testify to others of God’s protection, strength, mercy and preserving grace through terrible moments.
As much as I would love to start of the first post in 2026 with something light and celebratory, the truth is life doesn’t always fit into our perfectly packaged boxes. Things get messy and we can profess one thing and be so assured of our faith and trust in God yet in another instance experience a tiredness in our soul and a burnout.
That for me is usually a telltale sign that my soul is malnourished and that I need to fuel up and continue building my capacity and sitting at the feet of Jesus.
So, I encourage everyone reading this to keep fighting the good fight of faith. To plug into a godly community, keep showing up and keep feeding into and supporting your community. Develop self care strategies early on and please offer yourself grace.
To my irons, I am incredibly grateful to each of you for constantly praying and pouring into me and for the sharpening. I may be the one that publicly writes these words as I feel led and compelled by the spirit of God, but it’s the offline encouragement, conversations that also help support this. So, thank you. God bless you!
My prayer is that we will all fulfill our purpose and mission at the appointed time and with the appropriate vigor. And for those praying for a godly community, may God answer you in the most mind blowing. May your tank be full. May God send you men, intercessors and people that will pray over you and encourage you in your time of need. In Jesus name, AMEN. Stay sharpened friends!
