Into God, into New Jerusalem
The Triune God is our entrance into New Jerusalem as shown by the three gates (depicting the Triune God) on each of the four sides of the city (proclaiming availability to all peoples). He becomes our entrance when we believe into Him (1 John 5:10) and are baptized into Him (Matt. 28:19).
Marvin Vincent, best known for his multi-volume Word Studies in the New Testament wrote about Matthew 28:19, Baptizing into the name of the Holy Trinity implies a spiritual and mystical union with Him. He also tells us, The name is the expression of the sum total of the divine Being; it is equivalent to His person.*
Several verses show us that the name is equivalent to the person; the name is not merely a label nor an external designation.
• John 3:18, “He who believes into Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed into the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
• Romans 10:12-13, “…the same Lord is Lord of all and rich to all who call upon Him; for ‘whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ ”
• 1 John 5:10, 13, “He who believes into the Son of God” … “you who believe into the name of the Son of God.”
To believe into the Triune God and to be baptized into Him results in a firm and eternal union with Him culminating in our participation with Him in the spiritual and mystical New Jerusalem.
