Grace Came through Jesus Christ
Some verses from John 1:
v. 14: “the Word [Christ] became flesh and tabernacled among us…full of grace and reality.”
v. 16: “of His [Christ’s] fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.”
v. 17: “grace and reality came through Jesus Christ.”
Grace is not something outward nor something physical. It is a spiritual supply which Jesus Christ Himself imparts into us. According to verse 16 we receive grace from His fullness. And verse 17 tells us that grace came (literally became or came into existence) through Him.
Many New Testament epistles begin and end with a blessing of grace being with us. Galatians 6:18 is more specific, “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers.” Grace is the divine supply flowing to our spirit, the center of our being. This energizes us to live Christ and to serve Him (see 1 Cor. 15:10).
How is this related to New Jerusalem? Grace is Christ as our supply and this grace is eternal because Jesus Christ is eternal. He is with us today and will be with us in a fuller way in New Jerusalem. Hebrews 10:29 mentions “the Spirit of grace;” The Spirit is the flow of grace to us today and the same Spirit flows from the throne in New Jerusalem to grace us eternally.
