God’s Eternal Economy in a Hymn
The prior post is about God’s eternal economy. God went through incarnation, human living, death, resurrection, ascension, and becoming the life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45) to impart
Himself into all His people. In them He is their eternal life (Col. 3:4) and their divine nature (2 Peter 1:4); but they do not share in His Godhead. As their life and nature, He forms them into His corporate expression which ultimately is New Jerusalem.
New Jerusalem is the consummation, the conclusion, the high point, of the Bible. This wonderful city is the Triune God mingled with all His people to be His eternal expression. Although this is His eternal goal, God desires also to be expressed through His people today. Two examples of this present-day manifestation are:
• “as always, even now Christ will be magnified in my body” (Phil. 1:20)
• “glorify God in your body” (1 Cor. 6:20)
Here is a short hymn about God’s economy. The words are from Witness Lee. Music is at hymnal.net.
God’s eternal economy
Is to make man the same as He is
In life and nature,
But not in the Godhead
And to make Himself one with man
And man one with Him
Thus to be enlarged and expanded in His expression
That all His divine, that all His divine
Attributes may be expressed in human virtues.
