Finding Rest in Singleness Looks Like…

Finding Rest in Singleness Looks Like…

Everyone goes through various seasons in life. Those seasons for singles will look different depending on where they are in their process of personal development. The Bible says it like this:

“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” – 1 Corinthians 13:11

Finding Rest in Singleness is a Process

There is a phase of singleness where a single man or woman learns to hold their own as an adult without apologies. During this stage, confidence may not be very high because the single person is still finding their way—embracing their values through opposition while learning how to simply stand.

Each test of opposition eventually strengthens their resolve, although it is not always immediately seen. Once this resolve takes place, the single person enters into God’s rest.

Finding Rest in Singleness Requires Remaining Steadfast in Faith

Scripture teaches us that we enter into God’s rest through faith. Faith is simply believing God when things do not look like what we are expecting. It’s a confident trust that cannot be extinguished.

In some cases, this faith may confuse others because it results in a deep peace—the peace of God. Scripture teaches us that the peace of God passes all understanding. Simply put, the peace of God is profound. It’s thought-provoking and not easy to fully comprehend.

The Result of Finding Rest in Singleness is Profound Peace

It’s no wonder people have questions about how singles can be so well when the peace and faith of God are evident. Things that bothered us during our process of growing don’t bother us anymore. We aren’t worried about getting older and remaining single, or whether we’ll ever be loved romantically.

Instead, we celebrate all of the love that already exists in our lives. If God said He has a spouse for us, we believe His truth and simply live. Our steadfastness isn’t based on fear-mongering stories of horrid dating experiences, nor generalizations that swear off the opposite gender.

It’s based on faith—simply believing God and enjoying His covering. This spirit invites good things like productivity, deep friendships, and eventually, love. We stride unashamedly through life because being single and in God’s rest is nothing to be ashamed of.

Singles Who’ve Found rest in Singleness No Longer Put Their Worth on Discount

We avoid trading our value for attention, and we’re okay with the fact that not everyone will be into us. Our confidence is sure of the value we hold when we walk into a room—because we are His. We already belong to God, our families, and healthy communities.

What if God called many of us to be a sign and a wonder of His goodness in singlehood—showing it can be worn with grace, wisdom, and favor? This is what it looks like to abide in God’s rest as a single person. So, hold your head up and live. This is God’s gift to us, and we should do Him the honor of embracing it with joy. Even if that joy isn’t felt just yet, we live by faith.

Keep moving forward in faith and rest to see the good things God has for you.

“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” – Luke 12:32 (NKJV)
