Eat the Living Word of God to Live Him
In John 6:57 the Lord Jesus promises us, “he who eats Me, he also shall live because of Me.” He goes on to say in verse 63, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words which I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” These words are true and applicable both today and in New Jerusalem.
The Lord’s words convey the element of His life into our being for our supply so that we may live Him out. To live Him out as the tree of life is to hold forth the word of life (Phil 2:16). To hold forth the word of life is to apply Christ, present Christ, and offer Christ to others so that they might partake of Him as the tree of life to be their life and life supply.*
The Lord’s words “are spirit and are life.” We exercise our human spirit, mingled with the Spirit as one (1 Cor. 6:17) to touch and take in these words of life.
The Bible is God’s written word and Christ is God’s living word. We come to the Bible to receive not only what is written but also to eat, to absorb the living word, to take in, and later share, the living words. This is our way to have present experience of what will be our much richer living in New Jerusalem.
