Cooperation for Salvation (3)
Continuing from before, here are two more portions from the New Testament which encourage us to cooperate with the Triune God’s resurrection life in us which prepares us for the city of life, New Jerusalem.
Hebrews 10:19-22 urges us, “Having therefore, brothers, boldness for entering the Holy of Holies in the blood of Jesus…let us come forward to the Holy of Holies with a true heart in full assurance of faith.” This boldness is not anything in ourselves; it is the blood shed by Jesus on the cross which cleanses us. We come forward in faith, not in our analyzing.
Such coming forward, both here and in Hebrews 4:16, is not once for all. It is an often recurring action because we have often been distracted by personal desires, worldly attractions, or difficult situations. Every day we need to come forward, especially early in our day.
Related to the cleansing of the blood, 1 John 1:9 encourages us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” We see our sins when we walk in God as light (vv. 5-7), when He shines to touch our conscience. Then we confess and He forgives and cleanses. In contrast, verse 1:10 warns us, “If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
Thank Him for His cleansing to purify us, and His imparting His newness into us, to match the perfect cleanness and newness of New Jerusalem.
