Chapter 1: Knowledge Preparations

“Congratulations, you have just finished the marriage counseling session”. The deputy Resident Pastor of Living Seed Int’l Church announced to me, my fiancée, and other members of the counseling team seated signaling the end of the counseling session needed to have our wedding organized in his church. This announcement surely gladdened my heart and that of my beautiful fiancée not after we have spent the last six weekends listening to lectures from a team of Counselors who did a good job of sharing their knowledge and the Word of God with us. 

“Congratulations,” other members of the Counseling team also almost said at the same time extending their hands to us for handshakes. “We wish you both well in this great venture of marriage.”

“Thank you sirs and mas,” I responded excitedly looking at their faces and trying to remember how they have all drilled us with lots of questions and notes all through the counseling sessions.

 “Thank you for teaching us, we enjoyed the sessions,” I added now looking at the face of my wife-to-be who was seated beside me.

“I’ve not had a major dispute and crisis in my marriage,” this information stung my soul as I read through a manual on marriage from an accomplished Christian leader who has been married for close to 30 years. “I encountered light before I got married and I have walked by this light since the first day of my marriage”.

Though this message and information went deep into my being, I tried, at first, to pass it off as falsehood. 

How, I said to myself. Can that be true? No dispute or crisis for over 30 years in marriage? That must be out of this world! 

Can you check out the integrity of the giver of the information, my mind reminded me. This is a leader of leaders in your country. People like him don’t just utter nonsense.

But, I tried to argue out the last statement from my mind. How did he achieve that? I have struggled to keep disputes and other forms of distractions away from my marriage of only one year!

Remember, he wrote he encountered light before he got married. He was privileged to have adequate knowledge preparation before he entered into marriage. The light probably helped him to keep disputes and crisis away from his marriage. Remember that the Word of God says you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.

But, I countered the last statement again. I also went through a counseling session with my wife before we got married.

And you think that was enough? My mind threw back a shocking question at me.
