Christ in Us, Our Hope of Glory
Colossians 1:27 assures us of “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” He is in us and He is the glorious One but His glory has not yet been manifested in His people. Eventually this glory will shine out from New Jerusalem.
It is certain that this glory will eventually come forth. It is like a seed planted in the ground which sprouts, grows, and then brings for colorful flowers. Christ as glory is now growing in us and will blossom out of us. Therefore we can “boast/rejoice/ exult* because of the hope of the glory of God” (Rom. 5:2).
Jesus Christ will return to the earth visibly, in glory. Luke 21:27 record’ His words that men “will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” Because of this, we are “awaiting the blessed hope, even the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).
But it is not only our Lord who will come in glory. Second Thessalonians 2:13 assures us, “He comes to be glorified in His saints and to be marveled at in all those who have believed.” We are never the source of glory. The glory is Jesus Christ in resurrection—Himself, in us, and in New Jerusalem, the city “having the glory of God” (Rev. 21:11).
