Celebrating Death: A Disturbing Reality

    By Elizabeth Prata

    SYNOPSIS
The post discusses the reaction to the death of TPUSA Founder Charlie Kirk, highlighting how some individuals on the political left have celebrated it. I highlight the biblical perspective of enmity against God, citing scripture to illustrate the deep-seated hostility towards truth among the unsaved, and concludes with the importance of the Gospel as the only saving message.

Yesterday I responded to the tragic news with the linked essay below that TPUSA Founder Charlie Kirk had been assassinated while speaking at an event in Utah. I’d written that as awful as that event was, we should not be surprised that the truth of God’s word incites a murderous anger in the unsaved.

A murderous killing and the sinfulness of sin

SInce that time, people ‘on the other side of the aisle’ have rejoiced, gloated, and even celebrated .

People are surprised that some are celebrating the of Charlie yesterday, September 10, 2025. He was founder of TPUSA, had a strong connection to the conservative touth of America, and debated civilly with facts and compassion.

    So they killed him.

    And then they celebrated.

Some are shocked by this. Others deny that the joy that politically liberal and spiritually bankrupt people are manifesting is as widespread as it is. The mind just does not want to go there.

But we go there. We turn to God’s word once again, and find that the Bible contains the perfect forewarning for situations like these.

There can’t be that many who are celebrating, can there? It’s a fringe thing, surely.

    No, it isn’t.

I understand that it’s hard for Christians to fathom celebrating someone’s death. Even empathetic unsaved people wouldn’t do that, would they?

They would. In fact, conservative political commentator, podcast host, and filmmaker Matt Walsh wrote the following on Twitter,

I know some of you want to do the kumbaya thing. You want to say that the celebration of Charlie’s is only happening on the fringes. I’m sorry but that’s just not true. They jeered and heckled him in CONGRESS yesterday. The left wants us dead. That is the mainstream view.

When we are saved, we are so infused with joy, we are so almost completely made new, our conscience is so relieved of its sin burden, that we forget what it means to be at enmity with God. Romans 8:7 has it-

because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, NASB

I like the KJV of the verse: Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be

Matthew Henry says of enmity v. 7: and this is worse than the former. The former speaks the carnal sinner a dead man, which is bad; but this speaks him a devil of a man. It is not only an enemy, but enmity itself. It is not only the alienation of the soul from God, but the opposition of the soul against God; it rebels against his authority, thwarts his design, opposes his interest, spits in his face, spurns at his bowels. Can there be a greater enmity? An enemy may be reconciled, but enmity cannot.

Henry, M. (1994). Matthew Henry’s commentary on the whole Bible: complete and unabridged in one volume (p. 2211). Hendrickson.

I am reminded of the Tribulation period to come. Revelation 11 describes the hatred the unsaved have for the saved, which comes to a head when the Antichrist the Two Witnesses who had been preaching truth to a very dark world.

7When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them and kill them. 8And their dead bodies will lie on the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. 9Those from the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations will look at their dead bodies for three and a half days, and will not allow their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb. 10And those who live on the earth will rejoice over them and celebrate; and they will send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who live on the earth. (Revelation 11:7-10).

They celebrated the deaths. They gave gifts! So much so in fact they refused to even bury their bodies, but let them putrefy in the street. These are no-conscience people.

We constantly underestimate the sinfulness of sin. We underestimate the depth of the hatred the unsaved soul has against the God who created them. Which makes it all the more amazing that God sent Jesus to preach truth live a sinless life (and even though He is perfect, they wanted to kill HIM), died as the sacrifice for sin, and be raised again. The Gospel is the saving message, the ONLY saving message that the heart at enmity against God can hear. When they kill a Christian, they are trying to kill the truth that they suppress (Romans 1:18).

    The Gospel saves.

Do Christian Values Work in What We Call the "Real World"?

In his classic text, The Contemplative Pastor, Eugene Peterson wrote:As a pastor, I don’t like being viewed as nice but insignificant. I bristle when a high-energy executive leaves the place of worship with the comment, ‘This was wonderful, Pastor, but now we have to get back to the real world, don’t we?’ I had thought we were in the most-real world, the world revealed as God’s, a world believed to be invaded by God’s grace and turning on the pivot of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection.
