Book Review: Bible Study by Glenna Marshall {+ Bonus Video} — Nicole O'Meara
WHAT WORKED
Glenna is a woman of the Word, well-equipped to write a guide to Bible study. She invites you into her years of study, why she does it, and how it has shaped her. I found this to make the book less of a how-to and more of an encouraging invitation.
“As you study regularly, your desire will deepen.” (p.26)
Glenna starts by outlining reasons why we should care to study the Bible, and why we can study the Bible without a fill-in style guide. It’s a brief but empowering section of this short book.
“Bible study is worth the effort because it allows you to know God more deeply and share his truth with more clarity.” (p.12)
Then she gives us her step-by-step inductive Bible study method. It’s not complicated. It is do-able and effective.
Perhaps the best part of this book is its length. It’s short. I read it in just over an hour. It’s part of the Disciplines of Devotion series (TGC and Crossway) in which each book introduces one spiritual discipline and gives practical steps to implement them in your modern, hurried life. There are six books in the series so far:
Sabbath Rest
Prayer
Fasting
Worship
Evangelism
