<p>Sitting beside a hospital bed, holding the hand of someone you love who is hurting, is one of the most helpless feelings in the world. You want to do something — and praying Scripture over them is something real you can do.</p>

And Jeremiah's cry makes a beautiful bedside prayer: "Heal me, LORD, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved" (<a href="https://bible.crossmap.com/Jeremiah.17_14/NIV">Jeremiah 17:14</a>).</p>

<p>In years of walking with families through illness, I have learned to pray for healing with both boldness and trust. We ask God plainly for healing, because he is the healer. But we also entrust the outcome to him, who sees what we cannot and whose timing is not ours. Sometimes healing comes quickly, sometimes through long treatment, sometimes the body is not healed even as the soul is held. Praying these verses is not a formula that guarantees a particular result; it is a way of placing someone we love into the hands of the One who loves them even more than we do. That trust, held alongside our asking, is itself a form of peace.</p>
