Mathew 8 verse 8

The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

  1. In olden days, the word of the king is law.
  2. In modern democracy, the word of the Governor is an order.
  3. The word of the President of a nation must be respected.
  4. In the corporate world, the word of Managing Directors, General Managers, must be obeyed.
  5. In the church, the word of General Overseers, Pastors is final.
  6. In the family, the word of the father settles the matter.
  7. Under traditional religion, the word of the oracle is a decree.

If we can obey all these, why are we finding it difficult to hear, follow, respect, believe and have faith in the word of God?

Do Christian Values Work in What We Call the "Real World"?

In his classic text, The Contemplative Pastor, Eugene Peterson wrote:As a pastor, I don’t like being viewed as nice but insignificant. I bristle when a high-energy executive leaves the place of worship with the comment, ‘This was wonderful, Pastor, but now we have to get back to the real world, don’t we?’ I had thought we were in the most-real world, the world revealed as God’s, a world believed to be invaded by God’s grace and turning on the pivot of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection.
